The salary negotiation trick nobody talks about
When they ask "What are your salary expectations?" — don't give a number.
Instead say: "I'd love to understand the full scope of the role first, so I can give you a thoughtful answer."
This does three things:
1. You get more information before anchoring
2. You signal that you care about the role, not just the money
3. You shift the dynamic — now THEY share first
I used this approach for my last role and ended up 20% above my initial target.
The person who names a number first usually loses.
